Rally for Rosie’s Place @ Volante Farms March 2-3 & 9-10, 2013

Volante Farms is excited to announce the first ever Fresh Food Drive and Rally for Rosie’s Place this March 2-3 and 9-10.  Shelters like Rosie’s Place depend on non-perishable donations throughout the year for their guests, and Rosie’s Place in particular has been striving in recent years to put fresh food and healthy produce on their tables to promote healthy diets for their guests. See the recent article in The Boston Globe about their efforts here:

Although Rosie’s Place has been having great success partnering with farms like Volante’s, which donates several thousand pounds of food per year to this and other area shelters in season,  there is an expressed and apparent lack of fresh food donation available to them in the lean winter months.  Volante’s is looking to change this in the month of March with our first ever fresh food drive. We invite our customers and everyone in the community to visit us on these first two weekends in March and while checking out donate a fresh fruit or vegetable to our Rosie’s Place Bin. We will keep these perishables cool and fresh in our refrigerated chests until after the weekend when Rosie’s  Place volunteer will account for and deliver the donations to Rosie’s Place.  She will give us a number to match and we will match our customers’ donation on the following two weekends in March, so we will have guaranteed them an entire month of fresh food.

Please help us start off a new tradition strongly and talk to your school and community groups about helping us feed the many needy families who will benefit from a boost of nutrition this winter. We will have a list of preferred vegetables and fruits, though they will be happy to accept anything from our shelves. The smallest donation makes a huge difference so consider adding an orange, cucumber or tomato to your produce shopping list this March and drop in our bin for Rosie’s Place.

“The mission of Rosie’s Place is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for poor and homeless women to maintain their dignity, seek opportunity, and find security in their lives. In the spirit of that mission, our food programs are committed to providing the guests at Rosie’s Place with access to fresh, healthy, and nutritious food that is too often simply not an option for families struggling to make ends meet. Volante Farms has played a crucial role in this effort, particularly during these winter months when local produce donations are significantly limited. Volante Farms is truly “a place for all seasons,” generously providing year-round support to the health and well-being of our guests at Rosie’s Place.”
